David Leblang is The Ambassador Henry Taylor Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia and is a faculty associate at the Miller Center where he is the Randolph P. Compton Professor. He is also a professor of public policy at the University’s Batten School for Leadership and Public Policy, where he is director of the Global Policy Center. Leblang’s research and teaching focuses on global political economy; his external engagement has included consultancies at the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission’s Directorate of Economics and Finance.

He is has written broadly on the politics and policy surrounding global immigration flows, the relationship between migration and home country development, and the ways in which destination countries attempt to regulate inward migration. Recently he has written on US immigration policy with a focus on deportations on the one hand and on visa policies on the other. Prior to working on the politics of immigration, he spent a decade writing about the causes and consequences of global financial crises. That work resulted in a number of articles, as well as a co-authored book, Democratic Politics and Financial Markets: Pricing Politics (2006), published by Cambridge University Press.

Currently he is working on projects ranging from predicative analytics for humanitarian crises to modeling the spread of pandemic disease to the international diffusion of norms. He teaches courses on migration and displacement, global political economy, and capitalism and democracy
